Tucked away in the quiet lanes of Mangalore, Chef Komal’s Kitchen (fondly known as CKK) is one of those places that celebrates the region’s culinary identity with heart and honesty. Known for its authentic seafood and traditional Mangalorean flavours, it has long been a local favourite for those who love their meals rich, spiced, and soulful. From its homely ambience to the unmistakable aroma of ghee and roasted masalas wafting through the air, CKK captures the essence of what coastal comfort food should feel like.
While seafood is undeniably the hero here, the restaurant doesn’t stop there, their tandoor and Chinese offerings add just the right amount of variety for those who love to explore. Whether you’re dining with family, or simply craving a plate of ghee roast after a long day, CKK is the kind of place that always feels familiar. It’s one of those kitchens where the food speaks louder than the menu, and every dish carries a touch of the coast.
A visual delight from the moment it arrived! the butter garlic lobster was served beautifully in its shell, gleaming with a rich buttery glaze. The aroma was instantly tempting, carrying the unmistakable fragrance of garlic sizzling in butter. The meat was tender, juicy, and perfectly coated in that golden sauce. It’s indulgent, yes, but that’s exactly what makes it special is that every bite felt like a celebration of coastal luxury.
CKK’s ghee roast is easily one of the best in town, and the squid version is proof of that. Perfectly cooked squid pieces were enveloped in a thick, fiery masala that clung to every bite. The balance of spice and ghee made it irresistible without being overwhelming. It’s the kind of dish that leaves your fingers stained with masala and your mind already planning the next visit.
This was an absolute standout. Even as someone who doesn’t usually gravitate toward fish, this dish was enough to change my mind. The pomfret was fresh, marinated beautifully in a tandoori spice mix, and grilled just right, smoky on the outside, moist within. Every mouthful was bold, flavourful, and unmistakably coastal.
While the concept intrigued me, the execution fell slightly short for my palate. The crab meat was well-cooked and fresh, but the masala leaned on the heavier side, masking some of that natural sweetness you’d want from crab. That said, there’s promise in the dish, perhaps a lighter hand on the masala would make this a real winner.
A local favourite for good reason! crispy, spicy, and packed with flavour. The chicken had a light coating that gave way to tender meat inside, while the mix of aromatics and chilli hit all the right notes. It’s the kind of dish that pairs perfectly with an ice-cold drink and good conversation.
Chef Komal’s Kitchen remains one of those places that remind you why Mangalorean food deserves a spotlight of its own. The flavours are bold yet comforting, the seafood fresh, and the experience deeply satisfying. While a few dishes could use refinement, the heart of CKK lies in its authenticity, it’s unpretentious, flavourful, and proudly local. Whether you’re revisiting an old favourite or discovering it for the first time, a meal here is bound to leave you with a full heart and a happier appetite.
